Happy New Years everyone! As the first journal of 2015, I would like for you guys to know that my brother and I are expecting big things to come on our way such as the fact we're planning to upload videos again on our YouTube channel that we haven't use for a long time... and maybe get some stuff that Back to the Future II predicted(there better be self-lacing shoes!
Until then, I like to share some of my top 10 games that I enjoyed the most in 2014. Keep in mind that this is based on my personal experiences. Critically acclaimed ones like Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Mordor
and Dragon Age: Inquisition
will not be on this list because I've never played those. Now before I get started, some honorable mentions...NES REMIX 1+2 (Wii U/Nintendo)
Just a series of minigames based on Nintendo's classics in the 8-Bit era. 'Nuff said. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Wii U/Activision)
Like it's predecessor, I appear to love the game more than I did to the movie. It improves some of the minor complaints I had from The Amazing Spider-Man
game I played in the PS3 such as the web-swinging camera. Even so, it doesn't say much. It had a lot potential of being a good Spider-Man game, but in the end, it fell flat into a half-decent game. Still, I enjoyed whatever time I get on this misguided superhero game... (and least it doesn't have that extra "not-dead father" scene bullshit.)
And now, on with the list...10. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Wii U/WB Games)
It's on the number 10 spot cuz Traveler's Tale kept the same style of gameplay it had from the previous Lego games. But you know the ol' saying, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. My brother and I expect it to be as good as Lego Marvel Super Heroes
is, and it did. Personally, I wish the game focus a little more on other DC Superheroes than just Batman, but I digress. Maybe the next Lego DC Comics-themed game should be called: Lego DC Universe or Lego DC Super Heroes. 9. Spider-Man Unlimited (iOS/Gameloft)
Yeah, another Subway Surfer
clone, but with Spider-Man! I know this is a "Free-muim" game that has in-app purchase that get you to milk some content, but you probably may not need to spend a lot in this game! The best part about this game is that you get to use different costumes of Spider-Man across from different dimensions! The game is stimulating and fun for any Spider-Man fan who own an Apple device. Says a whole lot since I got a new iPhone for Christmas!8. The Jackbox Party Pack (PC/Jackbox Games)
I've always been a big fan of the party trivia series, You Don't Know Jack.
So not only does the dudes behind the series present us a brand new You Don't Know Jack
game, it also comes with other fun games to play as if you're playing a tabletop game like Lie Swatter, Drawful, and fibbage XL. I enjoy fibbage a lot next to You Don't Know Jack.7. BroForce (PC/Free Lives)
A run-n-gun platformer featuring images of famous action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger? Sign me up! This indie game is so damn fun to play that it is as close as it get to have a fantastic game with Rambo, The Terminator, and Indiana Jones when those guys don't really get any good games from the past. (Oh wait, Indy got an SNES game that is decent)6. South Park: The Stick of Truth (PS3/Ubisoft)
You guys! You guys... this South Park game, hands down, is the best of the tie-ins. Obsidian put a lot of effort present us this funny-ass RPG game. You get to side with the boys of South Park have some fun time LARP-ing together until as you further progress, shit are getting real! The charm and humor from South Park is heavily borrowed, and let me tell ya, this game you make you laugh your ass off.5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U/Nintendo)
Hot damn, Wii U is getting some great games from now on, and this is a fine example! It's obvious that Retro Studios took what was good from Donkey Kong Country Returns,
and it more awesome ten fold. Four different characters to play with different abilities and some stimulating level designs, bring them together and you'll get a "cool" game. Get it? ...sorry. 4. MarioKart 8 (Wii U/Nintendo)
. What do you expect? However, this is one of the best MarioKart I've ever played and let's face it, it did way better than MarioKart Wii
did. The game is crazy with it's gravity defying tracks filled with such beautiful graphics for a racing game. I also like how they add a non-Mario character to play as DLC(Yeah, you know who I am talking about)3. Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMix (PS3/Square Enix)
I know what you're thinking, "Isn't this the same game from 2006, only with HD graphics?" Well, it may be. But in some ways, it's a BRAND new game. Because like it's predecessor, it not just Kingdom Hearts II,
it's Kingdom Hearts II -FINAL MIX-
! which was never released before in stateside! And if that's not enough, I also finally got a chance to play Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep!
(because I never own a PSP back then)2. Shovel Knight (Wii U/Yacht Club Games)
2014 made me appreciate indie games more than ever before. Shovel Knight
is the most finest example on why indie games are unique in their own way and further prove that 2D side-scrollers are still a thing. With it's marvelous retro graphics, an engaging story, brilliant music, and well thought out gameplay. The only downside on this game is that it's pretty short, but I'm sure the upcoming DLC contents will make up for it.
and last but not least...1. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U (Nintendo)
Yeah, you guys saw this coming from a mile.
I don't think I need to explain on why this game is extremely good because we all think of the same thing. It's Smash Bros. '
So those are my top 10 games of 2014. Though there are few games that I wish I want to try out. One fine example is Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire
for the 3DS or Five Nights at Freddy's
even though I have the game in Steam, but I didn't found the time to play it by that year. If there is game of 2014 you enjoyed so much that not on the list, leave your comments below and share with thoughts on why you enjoyed it so I might check it out.
So those are my top 10 games of 2013. Though there are few games that I wish I want to try out. One fine example is The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds
for the 3DS. But I think I said enough. If there is game of 2013 you enjoyed so much that not on the list, leave your comments below and share with thoughts on why you enjoyed it.
Right now, I'm looking forward for this year's games such as Mortal Kombat X.
Until then, Happy 2015!
